I recently purchased 2 ND rabbits at a show with intent of showing them in the future. Their pedigree's were mailed to me after the purchase. Upon receipt I noticed that the rabbits were not named by the breeder on the pedigree, nor were they tattooed, ergo no ear # on pedigree. My question is can I name the rabbit and tatoo a ear number as I see fit as long as I use a prefix of the breeders rabbitry so the orignal breeder has credit.?? :idunno I'm new to this and don't want to ruffle any feathers (well fur). Thanks

We only tatoo our 4-H rabbits. I only have one pedigreed rabbit and she just has a 3 digit tatoo in one ear. Around here the tatoo is whatever you want it to be. If the breeder had wanted something that would identify his barn he would have tatooed them. I'd say put what you want or if you want to you could call the ARBA and ask them about it.

Since you now own the rabbits the tattoo number and name is your choice. As long as the tattoo number on the pedigree matches the tattoo number in the ear you will have no problem.

If you are worried you may want to contact the breeder and see if they have a preference for the tattoo numbers, but otherwise anything goes.

Just be sure it is the left ear you tattoo.
