Hello everyone. We just picked up our 1st pair of ND doelings this weekend. Thy are wonderful but we have a question regarding tattooing. One of the breeders seemed to imply that tattooing was required for registration (that doeling is tattooed), while the 2ndbreeder made no mention of it at all--but still gave us registration papers. Do we have to tattoo her to register her? What is the deal with tattooing? I can't seem to find the answer online. Thank you so much!!

Yes, the goats must be tattooed when registering them. I would assume the second one is already tattooed. The registration papers will have a tattoo number on them.

Generally when you buy a goat you want to compare the registration paper work with the animals existing tattoo....The paper work will state the tattoo that should appear in each ear. If the paper work doesn't match or there doesn't seem to be a tattoo at all I would begin to ask questions of the seller...Could be an honest mistake...possibly the wrong animal...or possibly the breeder is trying to give you the old "bait and switch"...Either way no corresponding tattoo= no sale until you place a call to the registry that "issued" the paper work to get their opinion on the matter....
