Something interesting happened this morning. A bit of background first.

My first freshener, Ginger, is about 15 months old. She is 25% Boer and a good-sized girl. Her doeling is just over two months and HUGE and Ginger has been losing condition lately. I have been reluctantly considering weaning Peach earlier than I'd planned.

Around Friday something about Ginger caught my attention but I couldn't figure out what. She seemed ever so slightly off. I spent some extra time watching her and inspecting her all over, but could find no reason for my small red flag. It was hot, so I chalked it up to that.

Saturday, she was definitely a bit off, and seemed slightly reluctant to eat. Hesitant is a better word, and careful. I tried to check her face and mouth, but she would have none of it. I teach on the weekends and we are in mid-term season so I had to rush off, telling my dh to watch her and call me if he saw anything to report. I put some herbal dewormer in her feed although her membranes were dark salmon. I put some of my expensive supplements in her feed, too, counting as I scooped: one dollar, two dollars, three dollars.... :p

Sunday I thought I saw a glimpse of something funky with her front teeth, but she still didn't want to be touched, and I had no one to restrain her for me. She was still cleaning up her generous feedpan on the milking stand, so I jumped into the car and rushed off to work again.

More of the same but even more rushed on Monday. She had perked up a little, which I attributed to either the wormer or the vitamins and minerals.

This morning, while finishing up her grain, I saw something funky in her feedpan.....it was a tooth! She lost a baby tooth! I looked in her mouth...she was suddenly back to her cooperative self and let me take a peak....and there were two grown-up goatie teeth front and center!

I guess you were "lucky" to see the teeth. Alpacas loose their baby teeth around a year old and I have only found a tooth one time in 13 years.

the only way I found out my kids lost their teeth was because they bit my finger and I didn't get hurt too badly!

When I worked full time with horses I found baby teeth quite often. But a lot of babies means a lot of teeth so the odds were quite good that I would find them....almost always in the water bucket or feed bucket.

I remember that a couple of ours looked like sharks for a while when their big girl teeth were coming in.. Baby teeth hadn't fallen out yet, so they had doubles. :p
