I have two 3 1/2 month old bucks that I may be breeding later this season. They are brothers. I noticed the other week their testicles seemed small compared to the other buck that is 5 months old but then figured that since the 5 month old is much more mature his of course would be larger. Yesterday I noticed that one brother has started "growing there" and his brother is still very small. Would that mean the "larger" testicles would be more fertile or is he just an earlier blossomer?

They do go through growth spurts "there". And it will happen pretty quickly.

As far as size, yes, bigger is better. In Boers, you look for a buck that has a minimum of 10" scrotal circumference. Any volunteers for that job?

Larger scrotal size is definitely a plus when picking a male breeding animal.
Part of the judging factors in looking at a class of mature bulls, sheep, goats.
Larger testicles SHOULD be more productive in numbers of sperm available to get
your female animals bred easily.

I expect other breeds would have standards on rams, like the Boers, for
keeping up the quality of the males used.

I giggle sometimes when I see the "topic" of conversation on this sight! Nowhere else can we talk about such things!

To anyone who raises different breeds. Do you notice different breeds being larger on average than another? I have a mini nubian buck whose testicles are much smaller than my ND buck.
