I have a buck kid born Nov 30th (Nigerian). He's recently been under the weather and had the runs pretty bad. I do think it was the grain causing him to bloat and be sick. He hasn't always been thin, but he looks pretty thin.

What can I do to help him achieve a healthier weight?

IF HE'S HAD THE RUNS, CHECK HIS EYES, ARE THEY PALE? I WOULD TREAT FOR WORMS, AND ALSO START HIM ON A COCIDIA PREVENTION, DI-METHOX 40% IS WHAT I USE, IF THEY HAVE THE POOPS AND ARE LOSING WEIGHT I WOULD FIRST LOOK FOR THE WORMS,

I would get a fecal test done for coccidia, he's in the right age range for it, and it is a major cause of diarrhea and underweight kids. Check his eyelids against a FAMACHA chart (you can find them on the internet)--if they are too pale, coccidia is a likely issue, and I'd treat him for that.

I agree...my first thought would be worms. Its always best to get a fecal done if you are able to..so you know what your dealing with and which wormer will do the job for you. Cuz not all worms are killed by all wormers. So its best to treat specically.

He's definately is of age for coccidia. Thats for sure. Get a test done..if you cannot I would treat him for coccidia. Cause of his age and the runs. Thats where I would start.

Good luck!

Added: I would give him some probiotics and baking soda/molasses mix to settle him tummy. You will also wanna give him some electrolytes so he wont dehydrate. Important when they have the runs...and make sure he's drinking enough water!
