Thinning hair around one eye, what could that be?

I have a nice young buck (Creme D' Argent) who is otherwise in excellent health and good spirits, but around his left eye, some of the hair is missing. At first I thought it looked red around there, and then I realized when looking closely that it isn't red, he is just missing hair around the eye and it is his pink skin that give the red illusion. I see no discharge, and he can obviously see normally out of the eye. The eye itself is not red. He does not seem to blink or scratch it and I don't see where he could be rubbing the hair off in the cage.

Any ideas what this could be, or is it something to be concerned about?

My first thought would be mites, but it's been a l-o-n-g time since I've dealt with rabbits. How are the ears looking?

I honestly do not know much about rabbit diseases, but I have had 3 French Lops for almost a year now, and I had rabbits as a kid and when my kids were kids.

A few weeks ago one of my French Lops was loosing hair around one eye. Her eyes looked fine, but that eye looked a little watery. French Lops have kind of deep set eyes so I figured that one eye got irritated by the the surrounding hair or something in the air.

I put distilled vinegar in the dogs water for healthy skin, so I added a few drops to the rabbit's water bottle and her eye cleared up after a few days. I have read that Apple Cider Vinegar is best, but distilled is cheap and seems to do the job.

ACV seems to be good for a lot of things, isn't it? What was it about the vinegar that helped? I have some here, that would be easy.

I have been looking through my bookmarked URLs and cannot find the links I thought I saved about vinegar use. They may have been on the old computer before it crashed.

What happened with me is that my rescue Boxer, the Boxer I had before the one I have now, had serious skin problems He had cuts that would not heal and was terribly allergic to fleas. I was spending a fortune at the vets with visits, antibiotics, shampoos, rinses and leave on sprays. I was having to bathe him everyday. I found that many of the products had one ingredient in common, vinegar.

I did some googling and then started adding vinegar to the dog's water. His skin problems went away, 100%. At the time I was on a white dove release forum and mentioned it to the group and learned many of the pigeon fanciers added ACV to their bird's water to support general good health. Vinegar cuts down on bacteria that can grow in waterers and is supposed to be good for the gut.

When I got my current Boxer, a White, he had rusty looking tear stains. Vinegar in his water cleared it right up. His eyes still water some, but no more yeast stains.

If I can find some links with helpful information, I will post them.

Do you know the bucks history? It could be the result of a past injury or infection that he got over. I'd keep an eye on it (so to speak) but I wouldn't worry unless he shows signs of distress or the skin reddens. BTW I'm also a believer in ACV but I always use organic live vinegar. It helps a lot in digestion and preventing bladder problems. I add a dollop every time I change or add water. I also drink a glass of water with a healthy shot of live vinegar and honey every day myself.

He has an uneventful history and is a young buck I purchased recently, but he did not have this issue at that point.

He is about to become a daddy on Sunday.
