We have sick chickens and one has already died. We don't know what is wrong because we havent gotten a necropsy done yet. Can the disease from the chickens be transferred to my rabbits through me or just by the air? I don't want to go out to the rabbit house until I know if I could potentially make them sick or not.

Thanks.

Oh my, your poor chickens! I'm thinking your rabbits may be missing your company by this time. I don't think what ever is ailing your chickens would affect your rabbits, and if you are washing your hands before and after handling any livestock then you probably are fine.

I would be careful of what shoes you wear out to the chickens. Maybe a pair of rubber barn boots dedicated only to chicken work? You wouldn't want to track something back into your home, or the rabbitry.

I'm sure you thought of all those things. Hand washing is really important.

Good luck with your chickens. I hope they recover.

I am so sorry about your chickens!!! :th
MOST of the diseases and pests that bother chickens are bird spacific, so you SHOULDN'T have to worry there!
To be on the safe side, I would wash well after you are done at the chickens though!!
Good luck!!!

Thank you very much. We took the chicken in to OSU for a necropsy just a little bit ago. Hopefully the rest of the chickens get better soon. I will difinitly wash my hands well before I go feed the rabbits.
