Hello, we are new to goats and just got this girl, she appears to have a tumor? what do you think? And what would be your personal course of action.

Welcome to goats! They are a blast and this site is great for learning what to do with your newly acquired critters.

First, I am not seeing what you mean. Are you talking about her stomach? Goats have a large stomach that holds a great deal of roughage. It should look rounded outwards.

A couple other things you might consider as you get yourself started.

First, her hooves are very overgrown though and should be trimmed right away.
Then, if you can, shave her down to get a better look at her body and condition. It looks like she may be a bit thin and that coat could be covering it. Has she recently given birth and is she nursing? Or is she pregnant (she has an udder so I am guessing it is one of those).

thanks for the response! We are trimming her hooves this evening. She is nursing a 7 week old buckling.

the right side of her stomach is larger than the left, I assumed the stomach should be the same on both sides?

Ahh, I see. No that is actually completely right. A goat, like a cow, has multiple parts to their stomach and on of them does sit off to the side more. When she has eaten, it will appear even more bulging. Now worries. :thumbsup

No, that bulge looks abnormal to me. If the animal has a full rumen, the bulge would be sitting higher up AND it would be on the left side, not the right. She does not look like she has a full rumen anyway because she is sunken in below her loin.

It's pretty hard to tell from the photo, but it kind of looks like the bulge extends over the ribs?

Is it hard? Soft, squishy?

Could you shave her down and take a rear shot and more side shots?

Yeah, there looks to be something not quite right. It doesn't look like a normal "tummy bulge"
