Just came over from BYC.

Been lurking here a while.

Getting started in horses, but I have a pretty good knowledge of farm mechanics.

Hey Guys Thanks for the welcomes.

Melt party? Somebody left the door open on the old freezer? That's the only "melt" party we will ever have. I am in S. La. about 20 miles south of Baton Rouge, in a little rural community area called Galvez.

Right now we are hoping for a drying out party. Raining 3 to 4 times a week 1"+ at a time since January. January being right about the time we got the horse home. So the last few months have been filled with attempted fence building, mud wrangling, duck walking, and truck unsticking.

As of right now we own a few head of chickens and one grey paint horse. Plus the house animals.

Projects on the burner--- wow! I got a few going right now. Fence building, work shop remodel, concrete, barn refurbishing. Soon to be thrown into the mix is pasture rehab, lots of drainage work, tilling along with planting improved forage grasses.

Total acreage is 13+ under fence, mostly reforested (pine and hardwoods) pasture land, with about 4 acres open.

Looking to upgrade my machinery right now. Currently I have a 1978 Yanmar 2000 tractor. Looking to upgrade to a 4wd, front end loader, plus get a set a disk and a new bush hog. The Yanmar is really a tough little piece of machinery, but it is limited in both size and versitility. A front end loader would help out in so many ways it ain't even funny. 4wd-- well it is S. La and with the front end loader 4wd is a gotta have. So far I have shopped Kubota and Mahindra, got pretty good prices from local dealers. What do you guys think?
