I have 4 goats 1 Nubian 2 NubianxAlpine and 1 Nigerian Dwarf. all females and over 1 Year old. None are milking yet or pregnaut. What type of hay is best for them and how much? I've been giving them 2 flakes of Alfalfa in the morning and 2 at night. I also give each goat 1 cup of a 4-way ration grain.

Alfalfa is fine, if it is available in your area. We just feed a grass hay to ours, and give them some goat grain. We only use alfalfa when they are nursing, and we still only give them some alfalfa with the grass hay. But I do know some people use all alfalfa with their goats.

I haven't noticed that my pygmy and NG are very picky about what they eat. They just want food! :gigI give them the same hay I feed the horses which is a good mixture of timothy, orchard etc. that I buy from the farmer down the road. I have also been clearing some brush and I throw that in there. They like that better than hay it seems to me.

The only thing they don't seem to eat is the alfafa cubes that I bought. I guess those will become horse treats.
