I did have hay and newspaper in them. The other pair seem to be catching on now. The hutches I have them in do have wire floors, but I am currently keeping them in a covered chicken run- it's the shadiest part of the yard, fenced in away from the dogs, and the run is so massive I'm going to split it in half and make a bunny run. But for now, I don't want the chickens eating the rabbit poo, and I'd like to collect it for easy composting/use in my garden.
Um, dumb question...should I empty it every day, than?
I have two rabbits in one crate in my living room. I clean their litter box every morning when they have their morning run. It all goes out to the garden and eventually the rabbit compost which we are planning to build. I also do this every day not just for the smell (love the smell of the hay, not urine) but also for maintaining my bunnies health. Dobby is now finding that fluffing the hay, along with the recyclable paper in his litter box makes a very soft bed. I read rabbits do really like their litter box, so much they will put their favorite toy in it. As I get more rabbits, I know I will still keep this up because, not just the odor but the health issues of rabbits inhaling the fumes, along with sitting or laying in it.Sommrluv said:Thank you.

I guess some bunnies just have that mindset. Keeps the crate clean though. But then again, he's probably the only one that uses litter box? There's always one that has to be different.terri9630 said:My buck prefers his litter box. We moved him into a cage with a wire floor and no litter box and he started using his feed dish. Every morning I'd go out to find that he had peed all over his food and the dish was full of poo. I thought he would quit after a while but it continued for 3 weeks. He won, I had to give him his litter box back because I was tired of throwing away the feed and cleaning the dish every morning.
They all used litter boxes when the solid bottoms were in the crates. (I use the 2x4 wire dog crates for my breeding stock) I finally found the cage wire and pulled out the solid bottoms and installed the wire. He's the only one who insists on still having the litter pan. Oh, well. There's one in every herd....Ms. Research said:I guess some bunnies just have that mindset. Keeps the crate clean though.
