I have a doe that is anemic because of barber pole worms. I have others that I am getting ready to breed. I wanted to give the others valbazen (as a preventive and just in case) because it works so well where I am before breeding because I understand it will cause abortions. However, will it affect their ability to get pregnant? Should I wait a certain amount of time before breeding them if I give them valbazen?

If none of your other does are anemic, and don't show any other signs of worms (high fecal egg count, for example), I would not worm them. The more you worm, the faster worms develop resistance to a wormer.

Worming only when necessary has replaced the old thinking of 'worm on a schedule' or 'worm everybody at once'. Parasite resistance to wormers is a difficult problem (I'm dealing with it right now). There's a really good website here:

The American Consortium For Small Ruminant Parasite Control

Hope your anemic doe improves soon!
