I just have a few questions for the big breeders or the folks that has been doing this for a while. I just recently got a shed. I have 6 does and 3 bucks. I am starting to get into the meat raising/and want to show a little bit.

The question is: what all vaccinations should I do to keep the herd healthy. I have been told to do a little bit of ivomec, and ear mite paste. I rubbed ear mite paste in all of them tonight.

If you are doing the ivomec, you don't have to do the ear mite stuff - ivermectin works on mites as well. I don't know if you know this, but you can give ivomec orally. You just squirt the dose in the mouth (but take the needle off the syringe first!). It's a lot less hassle than trying to give injections.

There really aren't any vaccinnations for rabbits, though Heaven knows, it would be nice to have some. There was some R & D being done on creating a snuffles vaccine, but as far as I know, it hadn't gotten past the development stage. Regular use of a coccidiostat isn't usually recommended, unless you have had a problem, because there is a risk of the cocci developing resistance to the drugs.

Ivomectin paste is good. I use that stuff by squirting a pea sized amount on a Popsicle stick and then putting it in their mouth. That way I can limit the amount and don't overdo it. Then repeat 10 days later to get the egg hatches. You should only have to do it once... unless you bring in new stock. Then maybe once a year.

As far as other things, you don't need any vaccinations. Treat individual ailments as needed. And cull freely to ensure healthy strains.
