Hello everyone. My little fella has something on his ears and I dont know what they are. I thought maybe warts. But none of the others have them. Any ideas? Should he have a vet visit? Thanks .

Old eyes here ... hard to tell from the picture but could these be bites? Almost looks like maybe another goat is biting the ear.

The other thing it could be is Psoroptes cuniculi
(from my website:)
The psoroptes ear mite, also known as the ear mange mite, usually* lives its entire life on or in the ear. It is a non-burrowing mite. The mite pierces the outer skin layer causing lesions. These lesions cause a "crust" formation and may cause a foul odor discharge in the external ear canal. The psoroptes ear mite will also cause scratching , rubbing of ears, head shaking, loss of equilibrium, and spasmodic contraction of the neck muscles.

*Secondary infections are not uncommon, usually bacterial.

Can you get a better picture? It appears hair is missing and there are small lesions. But again...my old eyes.;) What does the inside of the ear look like?

Yep, hard to tell from that pic and like Southern says, check both sides. Until you have a real determination, if it were my goat I would try swabbing heavily with Listerine (orig/gold), on and all around those spots. It is anti fungal, antibacterial and I've had great success with in on dogs, cats, horses, goats for many skin and hotspot issues. Won't harm and may help relieve some of the condition.

They are little lesions. And had a dark crust that came off when I put an ointment on them. He was turning his head alot. I tried to get some of the ointment in his ear but he acted like it was painful/itchy. His eyes got wide and he started rubbing his ears. Is there anything u could put in his ears to help? I will try to get a better picture when my husband comes home in the morning. Hard to hold him still and take the picture to. Lol

If it is the Psoroptes Cuniculi than you will need to treat with mite medicine. Permethrins is best. You may need to see if there is secondary infection... if so an antibiotic injection will be necessary.
Oxytetracycline injection and another 72 hours later... but you would want to contact your vet. Dosage and treatment is best advised by your vet.

Most "dog" ear mite treatments are permethrin based so it is easy to find. If you already have 10% permethrins concentrate than mix up a little bit with proper amounts of solution with water nd dip cotton balls in it and treat ear. More than likely if it is mites you will want to treat around the whole head. This kind of mite generally stays only on the head mostly ears.
