We just got our two 25-30 pound Yorks yesterday and they keep dumping their water.

How do you keep your pigs from dumping their water every time you turn around?

Thanks!

Don't turn around. :D

Actually, I use a 2' x 6' x 12" deep black plastic water trough. The pigs climb right in to go wading and they can't tip it over because they are standing in it. Its sits at a slant so that the low end lets the water over flow into and fill their wallow. Just dump the dirty water down hill into the wallow and refill with fresh every morning.

at the 4-H show, they tied plastic barrels to the fence that had water nipples fixed into the side near the bottom. clean water, no spilling

We have a 55 gal drum with a screw on top. Purchased a water nozzle at TSC for under $6.00. Put that in. The pigs figure out the nozzle within minutes. It is very easy.

Don't turn around. big_smile
Hee Hee! Thanks for the smile :) Do they have a wallow? If not dig them one & fill it with a hose. Pigs must be able to stay cool. If they dump their water into the wallow - don't worry about it too much as they will drink from that. I know, disgusting, but pigs are not too particular at times. We use the big 15 gallon black rubber (flexible) bowls and the 6 gallon ones for smaller pigs like yours - don;t need them drowning! These bowls are virtually indestructible.

i also have the big black rubber tub for my pigs and they make it a terrible mess. so for 'drinking water' i used a 55 gallon drum with the hog nipple on the side of it toward the bottom. that way they can mess in the tub but have clean water to drink and i havent had to add water to it for a week. you can sometimes find those hog nipples at tractor supply or order them from Farmtek (spelling?) magazine for super cheap. works great! good luck

I should add that most of ours actually have pond access so most of ours we do not have to water. Never used the water nipples - glad to hear that works well for you. How are you securing your 55 gallon tank so they do not push it over?

i havent had mine set up all too long, a couple weeks now but they havent moved it or knocked it over yet. i wonder if once it get low they might.. but it will be time to scrub and fill it again so it shouldnt be a problem i dont think. if it is, i figured i would bungey strap it in the corner of the pen or to a tree to keep them from tipping it over.

All of our pigs use 55 gal drums with pig nipples attached a few inches up from the bottom the base. We have two or three nipples on some of the barrels depending on how many pigs are in the pen. In the winter we use drop in ceramic heaters in them and fill them 1/2 full and they stay totally unfrozen. They make life with pigs a whole lot easier. We use shorter rubber pans for little piglets and the larger rubber tubs for bigger pigs. The pans due have a lifespan as some pigs chew but ours have lasted quite a while. We have tried throughs(spelling?) but the pans are easier to clean out especially when they get pooped into.

We had ours pulled up tight to a little evergreen treen and strapped to it. Didn't move an inch. It worked really well for us. They figured out how to push the nozzle down on the nipple to spray water all over the place to make a wallow, but never tried knocking it over.
