Ok so we have a two year old Nubian billy who we noticed two weeks ago had an area on his back left leg that looked like a skin flap, tag or some kind of growth. It was like pink and fleshy all of a sudden and no hair. Then it dried but you can almost flip it kind of if you grab it. Solid tissue feeling and looks flat but when you get close and look you can tell there is a sort of lip on it. Started to dry and kind of shrink now it has been raining for days again and it is all pink again. Had vet look at it and he has no idea what it could be. He thought ringworm but it doesn't look anything like ringworm I have ever seen but have only seen on cows. No new goats and no movement for him either. Any ideas??????????????

Ok did more research on ringworm and it looks as if there is hair in center and then no hair initially surrounding. this is bald and is not circular but kind of pair chaped and about 1-2 inches long and about an inch wide. Again you can lift the lower edges. I am thoroughly confused and have already had vet that was no help. So any help from here would be great. Also have young wether that has lump under chin that had vet look at and he said he doesn't think CL thought maybe infected tooth cause chewing funny anyway to tell for sure if CL or not. Again no new goats and no travel to anywhere.

Can you post a picture? I'm having a hard time thinking what it looks like.

I've heard that pasteurella can sometimes cause them to get a lump under their chin, but I dunno if that's true or not. I'm talking directly under their lower teeth, though -- not off to one side or the other.

Roll's right...we need pictures.

Ok I will try and get pics tomorrow if it ever stops raining here. What is pasturella? This is like a fluid filled lump directly under his chin. I will try and post tomorrow and hope that someone can take a peek. thanks again. Have a fair to get ready for also.

Pasteurella is an anaerobic bacteria, often responsible for upper respiratory infections and pneumonia. Vaccines that protect against "shipping fever" are targeted at a certain serotype of Pasteurella.

Like I said, though...I've *heard* of goats getting a lump right under their chin, and my understanding is that it's caused by pasteurella. Whether it's the same serotype as the shipping fever germ...no idea.
