So sorry to hear what happened :hugs We always shut our chickens up at night but one night we forgot to and in the morning around 20 dead chickens had slitted/bitten looking necks. To this day we still don't know what kind of animal caused it :idunno .

That sounds like a mink/weasel-ish thing to do. They tend to go on a killing spree and not eat anything.

20 dead in one night! that must have been discouraging. i know in wisconsin htere was a mink a while back that killed so many local chickens (like 50 a night) that when htey finally cought the varmint they stuffed it and put it in the museum.

thas what i figured too because it came so close and didn't eat anything and went for the neck. normally the cats get weasels when they come in but thye where all in that night. i wasn't sure thought (still arn't) hopefully if its a weasel the cats get it ASAP

That or a dog. A retriever type dog would just go after for the sport of it toss it around & play with it more than eat it.

Sounds like a mink.

By chance have you been catching a skunk like smell in the air lately...slightly lighter scented?
