We are being given a free Bull calf (not sure of the breed yet). We don't have a lot of money to buy everything we need right away (this came as a surprise), so my question is what is the minimum that we need to get through the first month?
If he is still on a bottle you will need milk replacer and bottles at least.
If he's weaned, as long as he has shelter and feed ( grass or hay) you should be ok for the time being.
Have this BULL castrated ASAP ... it will save you lots of grief later ( think dangerous to you when it's hormones kick in) especially if it is a dairy breed calf.
Yes good milk replacer and bottle but look for ALL MILK PROTEINS and NO SOY in your milk replacer. They need water and calf starter and yes get him casterated and or banded ASAP. They can not digest SOY anything yet and causes colic and bloat and death or malnutrition. I posted a lot of info on my personal page and also in the calf weaning and birthing page. Good luck
