My two little Nigerian Dwarf doelings are 7 months old and about 25-27 pounds. I know many people breed their does for the first time at 7-8 months but mine seem far too small to consider breeding yet. I think I remember reading that it is best to wait until the doeling reaches 40 lbs (for Nigerians). What do you all do?

My doelings are typically pygmy or mixes of pygmy / ND - I wait until they are 12-15 months of age. I typically don't use a weight requirement. Though I wouldn't breed if they were abnormally tiny for their age.

Unless they are a larger Nigerian, I don't like breeding them before a year. For my smaller girls, I breed them around a year, maybe a little later. For the bigger girls, I breed them at 9-10 months- just to be on the safe side ;)

I do know some breeders that wait until 2 years :ep Not that there is anything wrong with that, its just a long wait!

If I were in your shoes, I would re-evaluate at a year. JMO

I think you should put some pics up of them, its been awhile!
