I'm not an expert and am just listing the names of who Bob Bennett, author of "Storey's Guide to Raising Rabbits"

New Zealand White
The Tan
The Florida White
The Florida - New Zealand cross

It's an interesting book and is written for someone who looks at rabbits at meat. He does discuss shows (that's why the tans are listed).

Hope this helps.

I don't know the top 5, but I would guess Angus and Angus crosses are in it. Depends on your market too. Around me, highland do well sold as lower cholesterol and leaner beef. I live in 'granola' country. :)

Sorry, have rabbits on the brain. Glad someone answered your BEEF questions! Sorry about that. Jumped to help too soon.

Have a GREAT Day!

BTW, my uncle in Bucks County, PA raised Angus and he had GREAT success with that breed. Very hearty.

The ultimate (for me at least) breed for beef is Limflex (registered Angus x Limousin crosses). They get the fat and marbling from the angus, along with the high yeild carcass and the fast growth of the Limousin. The Limousin tones the Angus' fat down just enough that you don't have as much waste on each cut of meat but still have the flavor since Limousin is a very lean breed.
