What is the best way to get a new bunny? :hu

Is it best to find a breeder or adopt a local rescue? I am not really concerned with getting a particular breed, just looking for a good fit with a new pet.

For just a bun for pet, you could go either to a rescue. Many unwanted buns from people who might think they are just not for them. Or quick purchases for children who have gotten bored with the bun and parents just don't feel like taking care of it. Shame, but it happens.

If you are looking for a certain breed, the internet has lots of places to look. Type in the breed you want and lots of interesting sites to see. It's amazing how many different breeds of buns are out there. And bun people LOVE to talk about their buns. IMHO, any breeder loves to talk about the animal they breed.

Good Luck looking for your bun! It's a fun learning process.

Either way. A lot of rescues should let interact with the bunnies too, so you can see their personalities. Breeders are also nice to buy from, because then you have someone to talk to if you have any problems. but, either way would work.

I am leary of "mail order" bunnies. I want to be able to meet the breeder and her breed. I know it's an electronic world but I feel livestock should not be included. Now, this might change when I get involved, but I don't think so. I know it's good to utilize Craig List, but I would like to meet the person taking my bunny home. And isn't shipping a stress on the bunny? Especially flight. And I know they are very acute to their surroundings. I just can't see a bunny in a cargo box.

But I'd like to hear others who have done long distance bunny buying. That's an interesting topic. Not just for bunnies but for all animals.

I would recommend the House Rabbit Society. They disclose the personality of the rabbit and also WANT you to come and spend time with the rabbits. They like to find the right fit and not just get a rabbit adopted. They are also always available for any questions that you will have now and in the future.

Not to mention that the rabbit is already spayed or neutered and vet checked.

Excellent suggestion. I've been on that site a few times. Very informative and good to know about them wanting you to come and spend time with the rabbits that you decide to bring to your home.

And knowing that your bunny is Certified OK is a plus as well.

Craiglsit isn't mail order as far as I know I don't think you could ship a rabbit in the mail. The impression I got from their post was they were looking to adopt someone pet rabbit that they no longer wanted. With craiglist you would have to go and meet that person and where it lives.
