Loving the herd life
Hi all,
I have a doe that tested positive on the CMT for Mastitis... We figured it would be positive because she had a hard spot in her teat for a day or two and we finally were able to get the chunk out of it... There were a few chunks, a couple bloody, but when we tested it definitely gelled up... So we treated with ToDay, one treatment, kept her twins off of her for 12 hrs then milked her out in the morning before we let her twins nurse. It seems the Mastitis is not going away, her bag is still hard. Since then we've read to treat with ToDay for 3-5 days consistently (doses 12 hrs apart)... oops...
-Should we treat again for several days straight even though we have already treated once?
-We have read that massaging her udder as well as milking her out as often as we could (every hour if we could) would be best... How does that work if we are supposed to leave the medicine in her bag for 12 hours? Also, what about nursing kids?
-If we treated for several days straight, should we pull the kids and bottle feed?
-If we do that, do we need to bottle feed another doe's milk (I hope that's not a stupid question)...
- How long until she starts clearing up and we can use her milk again?
This is so frustrating... From what I've read it says that Mastitis is due to "unclean" situations.. But we clean their teats and udder before every milking... Could it be that the barn needs cleaned out?
