I did my boys at three months, and I used the same bander that we use on the bull calves.

I band at a minimum of 8 weeks old. Standard bander with the green bands. Here in Ohio we now have to give pain medication at the same time now, so I give a small shot of banamine at that time too.

I didnt give it when I did the banding. It's not required here, and we dont with the calves. The calves dont bat at eye, but the goat. Sheesh. Total wusses. I gave them pain meds after the fact. I'll do it before hand from now on.

*they didnt scream and holler, but they whined for about a day.

Yeah, as of Sept 2011 in Ohio any form of castration must be accompanied by an appropriate pain medication. Thankfully my goats are small when they are banded and I need very little.

My boy was banded by the vet at 10 wks. He received a shot for pain and a tetanus. Very simple and quick! He didn't seem to notice the band, he was more upset by the shots. Cost me about $30.

Learn to do that yourself and it'll cost about $2. for the shots (including syringes and needles) and pennies for the band :D

Well I have a numerous amount of needles and syringes, never know when you'll need one.

I saw at Atwood's they have the greed band things, and a tool to stretch it.

But where do you get the pain med?

Banamine is an injectible prescription that you need to get from the vet. You could just as easily use human children's ibuprofen liquid given orally (2x the label dose by weight).

I couldnt get the Banamine the day that I needed it, and Elevan told me about the ibuprofen. It worked like a charm, an hour and my boys were up giving kisses.......though they really should have given them to Elevan!
