I got my Nigerian/possibly Alpine or something mix doeling 10 days ago. She was born on the 8th, so tomorrow she will be 3 weeks old. Her horns have still not grown in (her mom is polled) but she does have horn buds. I have kept a close eye on them but they are the same size as when I got her. They feel like rounded knobs. Is it possible for her to still grow them? I've never had any experience with a polled kid so I'm not sure at what age to consider her polled. Her hair does swirl around the area where he horns should have been but I read that sometimes this doesn't matter with a polled kid. If anyone has any experience with this, I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Some grow them in fairly slowly, I've had doelings that didn't need disbudding until nearly a month old. If you absolutely do not want her to be horned, you can go ahead and disbud her, all she needs is the buds, you don't want to wait until she's got points coming in.

I would watch her very carefully. I didn't think my twins out of a polled doe would both be polled as well, but they are both almost 9 weeks old now and no horns at all, but they did develop bumps that I thought for a long time were horns coming in. The little bucklings bumps were pretty big so I refused to admit they were both polled until a couple weeks ago. :)

Our vet came out today for some routine stuff and to disbud our one week old girl (I mentioned to him on the phone I wasn't sure she even had any buds to be burned). Well, he laughed as he tried to find them under the fluff on her little head and decided he'd swing by in a few weeks instead to try again.

My guys had buds when they were born. Now at four weeks they have small points poking through.
