Shave your goats, if you do?

My buck has burrs stuck in his fur and I can't get them out, and he's pretty hairy right now anyways...

Would it be safe to cut his fur? I live in MI, shouldn't be too long before spring.... I hope.

I would leave them for now or give him a spot shave. We are in upper Indiana and we will not be shaving ours until June or thereabouts.

For shows only, that's Jan-March and Oct/Nov here. If we get a cold night we put coats on the clipped goats. We don't trim them super short like some people do, though. Have to watch the light ones for sunburm if you shave them too close.

I think the only reason you would do an all over clip is to show them.
If you just have burrs in their fur just clip them out.

I do not shave my goats unless it is needed for some reason.

If you are not showing or really have a reason to shave your buck, then don't. Whatever is in his hair will come out and he'll be fine. Mine get stuff in theirs too and it comes out.

Also it would be too cold up there. Leave the hair on.

ETA: or as the others said, just cut them out if you really want to.

baby oil or WD40, apply, then use a comb and they come right out, no clipping necessary
