Hi

I have a llama and some alpacas for a few months now. I know they need to be vaccinated against the Menigineal worm with Ivomec and I know the dose for my animals.

My question is - why does it have to be the injectable and not an oral dose? My llama is in good health but it is so hard to lift up any skin on him to administer the the shot, but he would take the oral.

I have looked everywhere and everyone talks about why you give the vaccine but I have not found anything on why it has to be the injectable.

thanks

Deb

It needs to go through the bloodstream and not the stomach. Meningeal Worm works its way into the spinal cord and then goes into the brain. Not to mention that they could spit it out. Correct dosage is a must.
