Winter warmth

how cold does it need to get before you insulate your hives in winter? Here in my part of Texas our winter can have several days in the 40s with an occasional night in the near freezing range. Should I prepare to take action?

You will do just fine without insulation. We have similar temps here and never insulate and the honeybees did incredibly well during the winter [in January, we found massive numbers of frames full of brood]!
