I've been away at college, but my dad has been working with our now 2 and 1/2 year old. He updated me with all the progress he's made so far with her. He's been doing a little round pen work and just general respect training. She's needs more work on that, but he's had a saddle on her several times (Not riding her, just getting her used to the cinch and the feel of the saddle) and he also told me that he offered the bit to her a few days ago and she took it right up TWO times. Of course she chomped and chomped at the new feeling in her mouth, but I'm happy to hear she is being so willing with all these new things.

He's also been working on getting her to give up her feet and just general desensitizing. He brought her over to the trailer once to see what she would do and she wanted to hop right in LOL. I'm hoping she turns out to be a good horse!

We will probably start looking for a trainer in the spring to train her to ride this summer. She still has some growing and filling out to do, but I'm already starting to see her fill out and mature.

Good progress. I do a lot of ground work on my coming 2 year olds with a saddle and bit. You can really get some good training done well before you ever step foot in the stirrup.

Good Luck!

My dad is funny. He spends a lot of time with the horses, and some days my mom says he comes in the house saying "I'm selling the baby!" and other days he thinks she's the most wonderful thing in the world. As long as she gets big enough for us to ride her, I'm pretty sure we will keep her. Even if my dad did sell her, we'd end up with a fourth horse again in the future. My dad has become so addicted to horses! He retires in half a year and he plans on spending most of his time with them.

Currently the baby is going through a pudgy stage. I have a feeling we'll see her gain some height soon. She's almost as big as our 15H horse, probably about 14.2 or 14.3h. Hopefully over the next year or two she'll fill out and grow to be at least 15 h. From pictures I've seen of her father, he seemed to be a decent sized stallion.

I'm looking forward to working in the round pen with her this winter. I'm also going to tune up my mare, Sedona. I just hope the weather is decent!
