So, as I get ready to do my "big yearly get it all now" Jeffers order I FINALLY noticed that...to my ability to read and comprehend...that NOROMECTIN and IVERMECTIN injectable are the SAME THING...it SEEMS...

Is this true? Am I reading things correctly...because the NOROMECTIN product is cheaper...and I am a thrifty person by nature. I use quite a bit of generic stuff for us humans, and if the wormers are the SAME but just more generic type versus name brand...then that is what I am getting...

So...ARE THEY THE SAME THING? Am I reading that right? Help a sister out making a shopping decision, I'm trying to get all stocked up on things that are ancient, expired, or almost empty....

ETA: OH! ONE LAST THING...I have on hand valbazen, cydectin, safegaurd, need ivomec injectable and ivomec plus injectable...but what am I forgetting in the worm department? It's SO much easier just to have it on hand and not have to run around if a fecal comes back with something icky....

Get something for coccidia. Di-Methox is a good one to get from Jeffers

Thank you :) It seemed like it would be the same...I just always ordered by searching for what I knew by name...until last night and then I read through the catalog...and I was like "wait a minute..." major light bulb moment :)

Now if only I could decide on HOW to arrange my fencing and cross fencing...so I could get that all lined out...it would be a miracle!

Di-Methox, Activated Charcoal, Probios are a few things I try to keep on hand other than common de-wormers, oh also if you are using the pour-on type Cydectin make sure you have plenty of rubber gloves.

study the active ingrediences in your wormers that will help you a lot. When you use words like Ivermectin, Valbazene, and Safeguard you are using the brand name, You need to look at the active ingredients in them. For example, Safeguard is the same as panacure for horses and cydectin is quest for horses, same active ingredients.

Normectin is by far the cheapest way to go with an injectable ivermectin 1 %.

I agree. But you also need to make sure that they have the same concentration level of the active ingredient or you'll need to do some conversion math to figure out a dosage.

yeah, I've been studying it a lot more recently, before I just always did "what was common" I guess...or what I had been told....but like I said we use SO much "off brand" people stuff - because the concentrations and active ingredients are the same as the name brand...well...I've been looking into it for the goats. (and we cheat the system on some things, like the plain ivermectin is really more for the dogs than the goats...heartworms...my vet actually TAUGHT me that one...bless her country heart!)

I try to only use the horse wormers on the horses, and buy apart for the goats...otherwise I find when I need to worm a horse, I am out of what I need :) I did that a million times it felt like last year and before I knew it the horses were wormy and I was waiting on the stuff to come in the mail to fix it after we had that fecal run...BOO-URNS on waiting I say! Had that happen only once last year...but I was still 3 horses deep and one tube shy of getting what I needed to done...

I guess I was just wondering if there was anything different in the carrier too...not the active ingredients, but the other 99%, that would be a crucial thing to keep in mind. I suppose not though, but I was curious, and did a little research too. Seems not :)

I've already got di-methox, probiotics, charcoal....all my vaccines..a whole bunch of stuff rx from the vet so I never need leave like a true hermit...I did THAT big order when I did the "pre-kidding needs/replenish what I left behind when we moved order" LOL...it's always SOMETHING and I HATE serving up out of date stuff, or something of questionable age at least...now it's the huge "replenish worm stuff time". It seems here we come across something with some critter monthly all summer. I guess the climate affects it - hot and wet = more big nasty bugs and small nasty parasites then my So Cal raised self is used to...ugh...bugs...YUCK! I've already battled fleas for 2 more months than I normally do, and tapeworms in the dogs AND goats to go with the fleas...hence needing mas valbazen...nothing worse than seeing tape worms in baby goat poo...fresh poo and creepy crawlies...UGH! :sick And it doesn't help I spilled a bunch of it all over the kitchen floor and wasted it either...call me Gracie :)

I do love having people to bounce this off of though so I don't forget stuff...because I AM out of gloves! That was a good one :) And I am glad a little to be getting away from brand name only shopping just because it is cheaper :) Though I admit, I REALLY wish I hadn't left my box of animal meds behind still....probably several hundred dollars worth of stuff that got thrown out and I don't want to think about it...can you tell I still have my foot in my own backside over that move?

Now...what else am I forgetting before I send this order in....hhmmmmm....

I just ordered a small bottle of C & D anittoxin from Jeffers, to add to my collection of emergency medicine.

Do you have Spectam Scour Guard for pigs on hand? That is a live Saver for goats.

LOL :) Yup...I have both of those, did NOT have them back in December when I had a kid a couple weeks old get bacterial scours...resulting in a fruitless dash to TSC only to find they were OUT of scourhalt! So I grabbed a substitute and got the scour halt overnighted...along with my vaccines since those have to be sent fast anyways - I figured since the scour halt was a need, and the vaccines have to ship fast, I'd get it all at one time :)

Now the only thing I THINK I am missing is cheese cultures and lye for soap....but that's a whole nother order :) I'm still waiting until Monday to send in my Jeffers order...that way I can find ANYthing else and get it in there....I have needles and syringes for days...supplements....like vitaminB, Bose, all kinds of stuff for cuts, scrapes, abrasions, etc....what else.....perhaps a new kitchen sink ?
