I have a doe that was born on 11/27/09 and she has a green runny nose this morning. She is pooping fine and eating fine. She was a little bloated also this morning. Any suggestions. Our weather here in Florida has been warm then really cold. She has a house to go in out of the cold. Oh and lots of rain lately. Thanks

What is her temp?

Problem is it can be so many things. One option is to take her to the vet and have the runny stuff cultured to see what it is and what antibiotic works. Another option is to wait and see if it goes away by tomorrow. Another option is to just start her on an antibiotic you have around. Since we aren't physically looking at her, it is hard to say what is the best way to go.

I would also give her some Probios and make sure that gut is working well.

A green runny nose would almost certainly get antibiotics here, unless the green tint was obviously on account of alfalfa dust or something to that effect..

How young is young? I guess more specifically, how much does she weigh? If she weighs less than about 90lbs, I'd use Pen G @ 1ml/15lbs, twice a day for at least 10 days, administered SQ through an 18ga needle.

The reason my cutoff is 90lbs is because that's a full 6ml syringe of Pen G.. I don't like to put much more than that in one spot at a time, and I don't wanna have to stick one with a needle that big twice per round, twice a day, for a total of four big jabs per day. Before I'd do that, I'd load up Excenel @ 1/50lbs, skipping tetracycline altogether.

That's just a personal preference, though...keep that in mind. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who wouldn't think twice about loading up a 12ml syringe and SQing it all into one spot in big adults, and have no problems whatsoever.

She was born on 11/27/09 so she is about 9-10 weeks old. I gave her a dose of antibotics this morning. So I am just watching her closely. She is up and walking around and eating hay.

As many of you know, my year old Nubian doe Annie has had a runny nose with green stuff too since I bought her in September.

After going to 3 different vets, and giving her different antibiotics I did have her cultured. She has pneumonia.

The vet that cultured her said she needed a round of Gentamicin. He wouldn't give it to me because he said that Gentamicin didn't have a proven withdrawal time.

So, I got it from another vet, gave it to her for 2 weeks. She still has the runny nose.

I don't know if anything will cure her. At this point I am in a wait and see mode.

I think our weather here since last summer, wet, wet, wet, and now this winter, cold and wet have greatly contributed to some goats getting sick.

As of today, she is still sneezing and snotting, but eating well and playing. We are looking forward to some warm dry Oklahoma weather. GO AWAY EL NINO.
