Did you get your birds from Bresse Farms? I was just looking at their website.
No. I just put a FB post out asking if anyone local had any & a lady responded. We met at the elementary school bus circle. 🤷‍♀️
Turns out that she must have pretty good stock. I've gotten a few really complimentary comments on these young ladies on a Bresse page that I follow.

I was kind of surprised to find out that there isn't an 'official' standard yet & that it's really really hard to find pictures of 'correct' birds. Everything is just a description & a lot of 'here's what I like'. They're still working out what the American breed should be, I guess.

I went out early to replace their baby ID bands this AM (getting snug). I've finally learned to treat them like vicious wild animals 😉. Vinyl coated palm, cut-proof gloves (from my slaughter kit) & a pillow case to wrap them in. I got them re-banded ..... but they still managed to get 💩 on my PJ's. 😂

Blue has developed a line of feathers down her legs. That's a big fault. She'll be out of consideration for future breeding, but still great for the egg flock.

Now you'll need a second coop, like me. One is for the breeders, one for the egg producers.

I'm trying to figure out a sensible way to divide the chicken yard. Probably just put u-post & chicken wire lines from the back corners of the building out to the fence line. Maybe add on to the back of the coop building? There is already a hole where an old (no longer working) automatic door is. I could fairly easily cut a narrow access door between the existing coop & the proposed breeding coop. I already have some old roofing panels somewhere... just need maybe 3 sheets of plywood... a few 2x4s 🤔

Ya'll stop me!

These are about a half-hour from me. I could go pick them up instead of having them shipped.

I don't need any more chickens...I don't need any more chickens...I don't need any more chickens... I don't need....
