If my steer with runny nose and wheezing simply has allergies, could I give him Zyrtec or Benadryl?

Why do you suspect allergies? You've ruled out illness, no fever or anything else? Appetite good?

He is growing fine, he comes to eat when I call him, he still eats faster than the other steer. Primary symptoms: he wheezes and sometimes has mucus coming out his nose. I know drooling is normal but up to this guy, I'd never seen a steer allow his nose to get gross & not clean it with his tongue. He looks like a toddler with a cold. I feel bad for him--maybe he's just fine. And the messy nose has been once a week, not constant.

I don't suppose Benadryl would hurt him. Figuring up a dossage would be tricky. There are horse products (food additives) that are for allergies.. maybe you could find that and see if it helps him?
