I also keep reminding myself that goats will eat my flowers, and plan (plant) accordingly!

Yesterday afternoon, between rain showers

Peas (second sowing) are blooming. There's a volunteer squash that I left alone. Spring planting of collards in the back.

Green and wax beans, first sowing ⬆️

Summer squash, 4 varieties

Plum tomatoes (for chickens), borage and dill behind

Left is pumpkin (large) and watermelon
Right are two varieties of cantaloupes

That's coop litter 💩 around the boxes, but not on top where the seedlings are. It's the first step in improving the new garden area.

And the milkweed is beginning to bloom! 🦋

Yeah...no goats for you! Seriously, one day and plants wiped out. 🥴🤷
This is where I want to put them:

And along the back of the property.

Just past/behind where the men are removing a tree. It's a big overgrown patch of privet and vines...yum, yum.

That's a great idea ---- but you read the threads of goats getting out, right?? Yeah they are cute for sure, when they are where you want them! Too funny - just this last Saturday I got a phone call from one of my dog training students asking about how to get a goat back to where it should be. Her neighbor (who wasn't home) had a goat get out and wander down the road. Yeah - goats!

Myotonic (fainting) goats don't jump.....just saying! They'll stand up on their hind legs to reach yummy browse, but jumping is not generally in their wheelhouse.

The Stella d'Oro started blooming today.

We got one inch of rain yesterday, plus, and so far we've received another half inch today.

I heard a rooster crowing last night, late. I think it was Silas. I went outside, stood on the porch in the dark. I heard my neighbor's rooster, then Silas. And then I heard something else, very high pitched frog calls! It's raining, so time for frog nookie...and I believe the roosters think the frogs are roosters!

After I got home from work I was determined to transplant at least some of the plants given to me by @canesisters .

First, from yesterday...a little research, and some options:
IMG_20250506_171852515.jpg

Not to scale, but good enough for planning.

Columbines first... they like fertile, moist, partial sun...by the small shed?
IMG_20250506_172548173.jpg

I loosened the soil, which was dark, and kind of loamy. I worked in some peat moss to help with drainage.

Next I decided to prepare a place for the yarrow...needs full sun, good drainage, is drought-tolerant. Middle of the backyard?
IMG_20250506_184820179~2.jpg

The elderberry is on the left, but I think the yarrow will get plenty of sun for at least a few years. I loosened the soil, and dug out a lot of grass and weeds.

If the dirt was really hard I didn't shake it all off, but gave the clumps to the chickens, who made appreciative noises.

I'll continue tomorrow, after work, digging in peat moss and compost before transplanting the yarrow.

Then I will prepare spots for the Rose of Sharon and Obedient plants...the iris should be okay for a couple more days.
