I don't do fecals, so can't provide the much asked for "proof" that all of that works. Proof for me is good conditioning and health of the animal without supplemental grain, with good production of offspring. Culling comes into play with this management style, though that gets more difficult with just a few sheep and a 5 yr old grandgirl who already loves the sheep. 
We'll see how things pan out.

I never ask for proof. If sheep are thriving and not rolling over, that's about as much as you can ask.

That's the way I see it too...I've never been one to keep records of feed consumption, finishing wts., etc. I just put an eyeball on them and see if they look right, act right and are producing right. If that's alright, then we are all doing alright.

We've had an unnaturally wet summer, following a very wet spring. I applied sweet lime to the yard this spring as per usual and that usually keeps us flea free.
But...a few weeks ago I saw Ben biting at the base of his tail and that area was wet. Looked at it but couldn't find flea debris of any kind but it's enough to know he was biting there. Dusted his tail, back and neck area with sulfur powder, then massaged it all in to the skin. Repeated that a few days later at the base of the tail and around his neck.
Haven't seen him biting or scratching since then and he hasn't even gotten a tick this season, though we walk in the woods every day. I groom him every other day now due to his blowing his coat, so careful examination of his skin shows no evidence of flea activity at all.
If we ever get a dry stretch near the end of summer I'll repeat the lime application to the yard...doing that spring and fall usually keeps us flea free here. If not, there's always sulfur!

Do you buy the Sulphur in the garden section at the feed store? We have been flea free all summer and they are starting to scratch. I like the Sulphur idea.

I haven't seen any flees on Maisy or the sheep but I wonder if the high sulfur content in their well water is the reason. Maisy wears a collar though.

Yep...just about any garden center will have it and it's not too costly. And that application of sulfur did the trick...haven't seen him scratch a flea since.
I've also been using that sulfur dust~in conjunction with other treatments~ on a puppy we got about 5 wks ago that came to us with sarcoptic mange...just covered over with it.

That pup is looking much better since he came to us 5 wks ago with mange~bites in every inch of his body, sores, etc, malnourished, and lethargic. The man SAID he was 7.5 wks old but I'm doubting it...he's Lab/BC mix. If he was that old the parents of that pup must be tiny. This pup would have fit in a shoe box. He's also got hip dysplasia and the man said he has Parvo at his place also. All this was not told to me until I was an hour and a half into a 3 hour drive to pick up this pup.
No, he hasn't been to the vet...don't like to vet unless it's something I simply cannot handle.
The first night after a bath in sulfur shampoo followed by a slathering of NuStock.
Week 4 and week 5....mites seem to be gone but I'm giving him one more week before letting him join my other dog.
On a temporary tie out while we worked in the garden...the garden has been his kennel until I can get this mange under wraps and he can finally be with Ben.
