Triplets born to Ruby, the red Boer. She isn't blessed with an overabundance of milk so I'm supplementing a couple times a day. I do think that her supply is getting better with all the nursing the babies are doing. The last day or so babies haven't finished one bottle between them.
Cameo delivered last night. My goats generally don't deliver at night, but she forgot I guess. I think for the first time ever I had to help her. My lights are out in the barn
so I had a flashlight and a stick up battery powered light to work with. I could barely see, but there was 'something' presenting. She pushed with all her might several times and no progress, so I needed to intervene. It took me a minute to figure out what was coming out of her, lol. It was soft and leathery....it was an ear. That's all - just an ear. Baby's head was tucked down and both front feet turned back. I reached in and got his head up. Had to hold it up with my left hand while I went back in with my right hand for a foot. Got the head delivered out and had one foot to work with. I've delivered lots of babies with just one foot presented so that's what we did. She must've been pushing quite a while before I got out there cuz this baby was worn out. Had to work with him for about 10 minutes to keep him going. Cameo was tired, baby was tired, and after all that I was too. I came inside and got a bottle and milked some colostrum straight into the bottle. Baby couldn't stand up but there wasn't anything wrong with his suckle reflex. He was warm and content after that so I went to bed. I was back out at 4a this morning and he was able to stand and nurse on his own. YaY!
He's a looker too. I love his crazy coloring but am preparing myself for it to fade. Hope not!
