Sheep tap danced on the hoop shelter and did a good job of smushing it. I made lots of trips in the mule, getting more T posts, driver, rope, etc. Carson rode in the mule with me for every short ride and waited patiently on me while I worked, so he could keep an eye on me.

Carson and Trip played the race game in Lindale. When we came home, Trip in the front pasture, Carson at large in the yard, both met us at the front gate. With a fence between them, they both ran up and down the driveway, having fun, running and running some more. Great game.

Fast forward to now. Trip is gone now, Carson has had those sneaky birthdays and another one is coming up in a few weeks. Carson’s running buddy is Buford, the Anatolian. Buford loves to chase trucks, 4 wheelers, cars or whatever up and down our driveway, on his side of the fence. Carson runs also, playing chase with Buford.

Yesterday Peggy and Bennett came over in their side by side and Buford met them up front and chased them down the driveway. Carson was in the house barking so I let him out. Carson RAN! Full of excitement and joy of living, he ran to meet the 4 wheeler. Buford was all excited while we visited and kept a close watch, running up the drive little, I guess In anticipation of their leaving. Carson RAN his heart out, having so much fun. Tongue dragging, hot, but running. Peggy and Bennett left, both dogs running, Buford doing his job and chasing them away, Carson running for the pure joy it brings him. Carson trotted back to me, utterly exhausted. He found shade and flopped down, heaving for breath, too hot and tired for even a drink of water. Son and I watered the sheep, letting Carson cool off a little. He finally got a drink of fresh water and we went inside. Carson was limping on his left front leg. He laid in the floor, still panting and slowly cooled off.

This morning Carson is limping a little worse. All that fun was a little bit too much. He will be 7 years old in a couple of weeks. I’ll have to take him to town and let him wander the aisles at Atwoods, greeting new friends. My boy is getting old. ☹️
