My rabbit cages are in my chicken pen. It's very large and has a lot of trees for shade, so it's really the only place we don't have to worry about mosquitoes.
I'm in north Texas. I didn't realize rabbits were so scarce around here till I started looking for them. They are hard to find. It's weird because this is such an agricultural area.
I found a website for someone near me breeding and selling Champagnes, which I have really really wanted and am having a hard time finding.
So I sent an email asking if they have anything available and I like to give a little more info than cold short emails. so I commented that I was looking...
I'm in north Texas. We are not experiencing unseasonably cool weather. We have already been in 90's on occasion. You're probably right. I should wait.
I'm just eager to get more babies.
I have considered moving one of the does inside and continuing to breed her through the summer but then I...
I have 2 does I can breed again in a week if I decide to. I live in Texas and it gets pretty hot here pretty early. Wondering if I have missed my opportunity to get one more litter in before the heat.
When do you stop for the summer? What temps are too high for pregnant doe?
Trying to decide...
They are still alive today too. She is a good momma and taking good care of them.
I just wish I knew how she was bred. I only have one buck of breeding age at the moment so I know who the daddy has to be. The only other bucks I have are 5 weeks, certainly not breeding age. I just don't know how...
I was surprised to find new babies on the ground this morning.
I bred the doe to the buck 23 days ago. The babies do not look premature at all. They fell about 3 feet to the ground and crawled about 6ft away from the cage by the time I found them. They are all still alive now and at least 3...
Sounds great. The all wire bottom is great. We have a hutch that has a wooden bottom and they all use it for a litter box. It's awful. We don't even use it anymore. It's more trouble than it's worth.
Well this is what I have done. I removed 3 of the 7 kits. I put them in a different cage. for 2 days. They were totally fine and eating well but After 2 days, I traded the ones that I removed with 3 that were still in there. They also are doing well and eating well.
That way, they all still get...
Yep, start with chickens, then move to rabbits. Rabbit processes faster and easier than chickens too.
I have to admit, I still don't dispatch our rabbits but I don't have a problem with it being done and butchering them afterward. I just can't be the one to do it. My dh handles that.
Ok, So I have 7 babies, 2 broken, 4 either gray or brown and only 1 black one. I am happy I have 7 live healthy babies but I was hoping more of the them were black.
And I know that just because one is black doesn't mean it's champagne especially since the lineage is unknown.
I wonder if...
I have been looking for champagnes in my area and can't find any for sale but I did get to to buy a very large NZ white a couple of weeks ago that was bred to a champagne.
She just had her babies today. I know that there are at least 7 of them.
I can't wait till I can get a better look at them...
Wow, I guess if you have to move them anyway, your plan seems like a good one. It will be a long trip by having to stop every couple of hours.
I can't think of an easier way in august.
Will you be going to the new place prior to the move? Is there anyway to find someone that could rabbit sit...
