I just switched my goats over this week to that same mix (plus Calf Manna). A couple of things that helped me...
I got a huge metal trash can and fit quite a bit into it. I have a smaller trash can that will fit the rest as soon as I finish the transition and empty it of the old feed. I opened...
I had a ND doe that it took 3 times before she took. But she ended up delivering 3 healthy babies as a FF. If you like her give her another chance or two.
Just my 2 cents.

We have 2 ND does and use the milk for everything. Drinking, cereal, cooking (made biscuits and gravy just the other day with it), making cheese and yogurt... The only thing I don't do is mix it with hot coffee. Don't know why, but that seems to give it a "goaty" flavor. It does fine in iced...
We got a new doe last Friday. She has cried almost non-stop since then. Will she settle?
She is a 3 year old and we picked her up at weaning time for her babies. I get that she misses her babies (they are 8 weeks old), but HOLY COW! We are in a neighborhood. So far none of my neighbors have...
We use concrete reinforcer panels and step-ins (we just zip tie the panels together). So far so good, but we also have a perimeter fence, so if they did get out they wouldn't go too far. We have ND too and the babies can fit through the holes for the first couple of months. But, they work for us...
Is buttercup toxic to goats? We have a ton of it in our yard and I would like to let my goats out to graze especially since there are some great bushes to browse on, but there is buttercup all around them.
Thanks,
K
This is a good idea. Remember that raw milk sales are not legal in every state. You should check into it. You can start here: http://www.farmtoconsumer.org/raw_milk_map.htm
I would think it would be similar to humans in that the X chromosome is slower, but hardier and the Y chromosome is faster, but dies faster too. Breed early in the cycle then separate the buck and doe soon after breeding. I'm not sure if this would work, but it would be worth a try.

You could try a bit of strong coffee. I know there is some info out there about giving coffee to kick start them. You might try searching the forums for it.

Yeah for Western WA! I've been terrible about updating the blog. We have been so busy and I broke my power cord on my laptop, which made it hard to type blog posts while holding the power cord to the computer. lol. I'm hoping to be better about updating now.
There is a great book called, "The...
My ND doe, Penny, had triplets. And in true Penny fashion (she doesn't do ANYTHING that would make my life easier) she had them at 1 am Saturday morning. I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep.

Update, she did deliver at 1am. 2 large bucklings that I had to pull (first was upside down and twisted and the feet would come out and go back in over and over, the second presented head only with one leg bent one leg back, third was a teeny tiny girl that came with no problems other than...
I know I've seen info on this somewhere, but can't find it right now.
My doe delivered triplets last night with a rough delivery. I had to pull both big boys then a teeny tiny girl came last. The second one is having trouble with his back legs. They bend backwards. I don't have any BoSe, but I...
My ND doe is at day 147 today and this morning she had no ligaments, but I just checked her and if I dig really really deep I can feel something. It feels like ligaments, but she is not eating, is "talking" sweetly (it's so cute), her udder has filled and she is just different today.
Am I...
I have both registered and unregistered ND does. The one that I have that is unregistered is due to kid in 3 weeks and I have had a ton of interest in her kids. She is definitely less "dairy" than my 2 registered does. I'm a big believer that the market supports quite a range. There are plenty...
I have 2 bucklings that will be 6 weeks this Wednesday and they are barely nursing anymore, especially one of them. They are looking great and really healthy. Both eating hay and grain, drinking water. Should I go ahead and send them to their new homes at 6 weeks? Or wait the full 8 weeks?
