Called ADGA today and spoke with a nice woman who said I can use GMF as a herd name. So I'm thinking GMF kids. This way I don't have to change the farm name since using the inititals is technically the same thing. Yippee! I've been bent out of shape over this :barnie
My husbands family bought the farm in 1980 and named it Green Meadow Farm. It may have been called that before then (house built 1766 & barn 1849) but I am not sure. MIL successfully bred Morgan horses under this name for many years. She passed away 5 years ago and my husband and I took over...
Funny post, good thing my husband isn't in the room, although he probably heard me laughing through the house :) I have put vaseline on my chickens combs. Not this year, but last year. These last few nights in Western Mass have been awful. You might want to try bag balm too. May give more...
My 10.5 month old Nigerian Dwarf girls will be due for their annual CD&T vaccine the beginning of March. I want to breed them in the next heat cycle or two (depending on when I figure it out- got the buck rag ;) ) Should I give them their booster when it is due, now before we breed them, or...
I just found one from Hoeggers supply. Looks pretty good too. Golden Blend 25lbs shipped free at $49.95 is only a little more than 18lbs of the sweetlix shipped

I didn't realize the formula had switched to pellets until I opened the bag. I am returning it tomorrow. I still have about 2 lbs of my original loose mineral, so I have time to find/order a new one. I checked the map for where I am - Western Massachusetts - and we are a selenium deficient...
I was offering Blue Seal Min-A-Vite loose mineral, but they discontinued it and replaced it with Min-A-Vite lite in pellet form :/ I have researched the other loose mineral mixes, but they vary quite a bit. The man up the road uses Purina goat mineral, but it has a very high salt content. Why...
No, I have two 10 month old does. I should've seen the signs at her farm, but they were so cute and my kids were excited to get them. WON'T ever do that again!!! Fortunately they were in their own "quarantinne" stall and never met my girls.
I returned the bucklings. I was told my some fellow Nigerian owners locally that this persons herd was extremely sick, and they were suspecting Johne's infection. YIKES!!!! goos thing they were in quarantine :(
They are doing ok. I am going to weigh them tomorrow and see if they've gained weight in the week since I brought them home. I am suspecting a selenium deficiency. Would it hurt to give them Bo-se if I can get some from the vet?
I purchased two bucks last weekend, and had the vet out today to assess them. Nigerian Dwarf, 10 months old and weigh 30 pounds. Their heart girth is 20". The woman I bought them from never wormed them and says that they got into bad hay back in August, causing the whole herd to bloat...
Sorry for the misinformation, the feed has deccox in it.
I will have the vet run tests. Their tummies were extremely
bloated and they are skinny which is why I gave them valbazen
They are in their own stall, away from my does. I enter their stall
last and put my clothes in the wash. Ive also...
I am reading conflicting dosing amounts for Valabzen. Anyone care to chime in????
Valbazen is an oral suspension that is given at the rate of 1cc/10lbs body weight. I've also been told 1cc/25lbs body weight
Thanks for the reply. They are eating fresh hay like little pigs and they gobble up the 1/2 cup in no time. Today will be the 3rd day with the valbazen to get rid of the tapeworms and I will follow this with Eprinex. The meat goat pellets have di-methox in them. I have the local farm vet...
I feed mine with a bowl and pick it up as soon as they are done. Makes it easy to clean and keeps feet out.
* edited to add - feed their grain in a bowl.
