    DIY donkey hoof trimming?

As a farrier I would not recommend just going at a donkeys foot with some knowledge from YouTube and a pair of nippers. If you really want to learn yourself I’d recommend having a farrier there the first few times to help you understand the correct way to do it. As has been stated donkeys feet...

High Desert Cowboy- How far is it up north?

Yeah I couldn’t keep a dog like that. When the neighbors heeler got in on that he got rid of the heeler same day. A couple LGDs are out of the question for right now but my dogs are great for letting me know when anything is going on outside and I keep my .44 handy with a strong light

High Desert Cowboy- How far is it up north?

Yeah thing is it was their second offense. First time they ate their owners two lambs and a neighbors goat but the neighbors heeler was in on the kill so no calls to animal control. This time animal control was called and the dogs owner had been asked several times to keep them locked up but...

High Desert Cowboy- How far is it up north?

I haven’t updated in a while but I’m still alive I promise. We had a packed holiday and I came home to plenty of work to get caught up on. We weren’t even home 24 hours before we received news that my wife’s grandfather had passed away and we were loadin kids back into the car for a 5 hour...

Standard donkey barefoot trimming- What should I look for in a farrier?

I second the opinion that you probably shouldn’t do it yourself. As for what to look for in a farrier your best bet would be to ask your equestrian friends and see who they use. You should make sure that they’ve had experience with trimming donkeys because they are not quite the same as horses...

That is a lot to carry. If all else fails you could probably kill one of those ugly beggars with that maglite!

You mentioned revolver what kind of sights do you currently have? They make some really nice low visibility sights for a lot of double actions. I’ve got a super Blackhawk and found I can’t readily change the sights so what worked for me is I borrowed my wife’s nail polish and gave my front...

High Desert Cowboy- How far is it up north?

Well another successful thanksgiving has come and gone, sadly with some empty seats this year as my brothers have their duties with the Navy. But we enjoyed good company and way too much good food. I think brisket for thanksgiving was the best idea ever! The dogs seemed to really agree as...

    Considering getting a couple pigs

Mixing horses and pigs is not a good idea. Several years ago I had a friend try something similar with the pigs next to the horses but separated by fencing. The gate somehow got opened between the two and a pig made it in with the horses and was promptly kicked to death. I would recommend...

This year at thanksgiving time I’m grateful that I do not have possums in my area and that the introduced raccoon populace has been reduced by my neighbors and I. I’m also thankful for the .44 mag and 30-06. And the .38. And the .22. And the right to bear arms

High Desert Cowboy- How far is it up north?

Lamb sounds really good right now. Guess it’s something to look forward to. Maybe next year for thanksgiving. I’m not a huge turkey fan honestly, and while visiting my parents this year we’ve decided to forgo the turkey this year and are instead going to do a brisket. I’m sure the pilgrims...

Where she ran the red light doesn’t she have to pay for all the damage? That’s really too bad about your truck but at least it was car vs truck where you get the advantage and are hopefully all in one piece and healthy

High Desert Cowboy- How far is it up north?

That seems to be the popular cross, as that’s what I’ve found mostly in Utah. The hard part is they’re all up north about 4 hours. This year I’ll probably just end up getting what we call range sheep and start from there. There are numerous amounts in this area and are readily had at decent...

High Desert Cowboy- How far is it up north?

Something sad is that since I began running a pig farm I really can hardly notice they have a smell. If it wasn’t for the fact that I can still track food pretty good I’d think my olfactory senses had died. Boars are a different story though, they stink terribly. I can only imagine what a...

    Kimber tangled with Cougar!! Underdogged.

If you don’t have neosporin you could always use something like Preparation H. An old cowboy taught me that years ago and it’s worked as a wound salve for my dogs and horses for years. Though that may have been cause they were acting like a backside to necessitate treatment!
