How old are the bucks? Are they related to one another (the bucks)? We just bred our Mini Lops and Harlequins and it took a couple tries before the girls were ready. They were all first timers except the ML buck.
The babies in my avatar were all bottle babies from last year. We fed 3-4 times during the day and did not feed at night. The hardest part is not letting them make you believe they need more milk. They will act like they are still hungry but giving them too much at a time will make them ill...
Depends on what kind of sheep. For 4H we wash our black face sheep before shearing but if we were to wash our Targhee I would be afraid it would felt on their backs.
We live in an area where pasturing isn't always available due to heat and drylands. When they can pasture I will feed a little in the evening but when they are penned I feed 2x a day. I think it's too hard to only be fed once daily. That's a long time to go in between feedings and they don't...
Last year I had 2 hamp/suffolk cross ewes that had lambs. There back areas which are usually black in color turned a pink color and were very swollen (not hard but soft). If I remember correctly they were almost the size and shape of a regular doughnut right before delivery.
Right now, most of...
We lost Trixie last night. She was drinking around 5:00 pm and then when I went down around 8:30 she had passed. She was still warm so I think I just missed her. We are burying her today and I am going to try and take a peek inside to see what was going on.
Thank you everyone for your help.
Update: She's been down a couple days now. I can't move her as she's about 200#. I am going to have my husband help me tomorrow with her. She is getting electrolytes mixed in her water (which I don't leave with her for fear she'll drown), about 6oz of Propylene Glycol 2x daily, yesterday she...
Just spoke to the vet. He said that we were doing everything he would recommend. He would also diagnose her with Ketosis. He said that they could do a C-Section but that the ewes usually don't make it at this point. He did say to stick with her longer and up her dose of Prop. Glyc.
We've been treating with Prop Glyc for over 24 hours and no improvement. She was thirsty this morning but not this afternoon and isn't real interested in feed now. She's still moving stools through her system but now is making a moaning sound when she breaths out.
I have a call to the vet...
So she still won't get up. She had about 2 oz of PropGlyc this morning and I just gave her a 4oz dose for the evening. She's extremely thirsty!?!? I hear gut sounds and she's burping after drinking. She's still eating and drinking. She is grunting sometimes when breathing out. No teeth...
We would have special animal "guests" at our preschool. The kids weren't allowed to handle the animals except during circle time. They had to sit in a circle and couldn't pick any animal up, but they could pet them as they came around the circle.
I could see teaching the children to feed and...
She was a thirsty girlie this morning. I gave her water with electrolytes, corn and alfalfa. She ate most the corn and has eaten a small amount of her hay. She drank nearly 2 quarts of water this morning, so she might have made herself "full" from that. I also gave her 2 oz. of Propylene Glycol.
Our pygmy x doe has had her bands on for 2 weeks now. We taped them really well with electrical tape so she couldn't rub the bands off. I don't see any changes yet...except...she's gotten better about using them. She doesn't do a full on head ram anymore.
I posted in the emergency section but only had 1 response.
I have a 5 yr. old large Targhee ewe who is due in about 4 weeks. She's a big girl not pregnant and looks like a house right now.
Sunday we noticed she was favoring her front feet. We have a lot of ice and figured she had pulled...
