Hello all-
I have a 6 year old Nigerian Dwarf doe with chronic mastitis. The vet says it's most likely due to cystic ovaries. He's been out three times for her, and the mastitis just comes right back, within weeks of getting better, she's all swollen up again, and it's a $150 bill every trip...
Update on Oreo ...
Got the vet out to look at her and it's not pregnancy. He diagnosed her with mastitis and mild pneumonia. Gave her some antibiotic and anti-inflammatory injections and injected her udders with medication and hopefully she's on the mend. She was quite unhappy about the...
Thanks , everyone.
Today she is still restless. Bleating constantly, and holding her tail down flat. She's doing a lot of ground pawing and she does a funny squat. I am beginning to think we may be getting surprise kids.
Sure wish I could have got the vet here more quickly. I'm really...
No, no changes to her girly bits. I have really been keeping a close eye on her tonight. She's in a birthing pen, isolated from her herd mates, and she's quite unhappy about it. Poor girl. I don't think she's contagious or anything, but I can't have her roughing up my other girls.
I figure on...
Hello all-
We have a 5 year old Nigerian Doe, named Oreo. She's always been a sweetheart, and has had no troubles getting along with any of our other goats. We acquired a Nigerian buck for breeding purposes, and he successfully bred every doe we have, with the exception of Oreo. We had her...
Our rescue doe, a Pygmy who is approximately 4 years old, had surprise twins on Sept. 30, is really getting thin.
We are feeding hay and a 16% dairy mix. She gets the dairy mix 3 times a day and we keep her with hay, pretty much free choice. This morning, I noticed she's really getting thin...
So, after taking in a Pygmy doe on a rescue basis 8 weeks ago, she surprised me 4 days ago with dropping 2 kids, a doe and a buck.
We were totally unprepared for kids, and having no idea she was pregnant, we're scrambling to get it together.
We'd like to keep them both, and we need to have...
Well, thanks for all the replies. I feel much better and the kids are just doing great. They're a lot more active today, just playing and bouncing around.
Here's some pics:
My little girl holding Lily, the doe.
And with Racer, the buck.
As you can see, the buck is almost twice the size...
Need a little help here, as we have had a couple kids born from a doe we took in on a rescue basis a few weeks ago ...
I came out yesterday morning to find her with 2 adorable kids. I had no idea she was pregnant.
The smallest kid, a pygmy doeling, has a bit of diarrhea. She's up and...
I should have thought of Storey's. I have the chicken version.
I guess we're probably not quite ready for goats then. I'll definitely pick up Storey's next time I'm at TSC.
Thanks a bunch. =)

Greetings. =)
My husband and I would love to get a dairy goat. Most likely a Toggenberg pair.
I'm finding there are WAY too many goat sites, most with conflicting information.
So, I have a few questions.
1. What can I do with any spare milk? Can it be sold at farm markets, etc.? We...
