I just got new ones at TSC last week - they were in the bargain bin, look JUST LIKE the black handled ones that GoatHerd posted (the pruning shear type, not the pointy almost scissors one) except they ARE GREEN handled...guess what...ONLY $5 FOR THEM!!!! AND SHARP AS HECK...because let me tell...
Well...day before yesterday I got some updated pics of Penelope - our nubian doe, the last one we were waiting on to kid. She was due that day, the 10th...and looking MIGHTY close, but I knew I had a few more days to go...
Never got to upload and post the update, been SUPER crazy busy round...
LOL...I see... :) I wish it didn't take me anytime to clean too!
Really, that doesn't sound nearly as bad as I was envisioning...even if in the middle of summer you have to clean 3 or 4 times a week...it's not that bad :)
THANK YOU! Now I feel more confident ordering the right cages to get...
Yup...been a buck year hard core most people I talk to...I've been SEARCHING AND SEARCHING to add a few saanen does and with the exception of FAR FAR away...no luck...
I REALLY hope the "buck year" doesn't mean another crummy summer 'round here....it was like this last year too....tons of bucks...
OKay...I have been wonderin' and I hope it isn't too late to ask and you see this...but do tell me please...
How much time does it take to clean things with your set up?
How often do you clean things (i.e. dump out/rinse trays, etc)
What is the odor like? Do you have any special "anti-stink"...
LOL! I had to laugh! MINE HATES THE HOSE! HE's a-scared of it! Seems since the time he picked it up, by the sprayer nozzle thing, and squeezed the trigger - WITH THE WATER ON - and got a FACE FULL OF IT...well...that's ONE THING he leaves TOTALLY alone! He'll walk WELL around the hose when i...
Oh yes, they are WONDERFUL little goats! I miss our teeny goats now that we have the big ones - each breed has something fun and unique about it (which I guess is stereotyping isn't it in a way :P ) but the little goats are just cute forever and quirky and fun! You're gonna love 'em...but be...
While this is VERY true - I must admit, SOMETIMES it helps a TON just to "brainstorm" with others - those times when you can't see the obvious and someone else says "Hey, what about this?" and BOOM! Clear answer! Sometimes you just get frazzled and look beyond the obvious ya know? I think it's...
We do this basically - I tend to use the Vetrolin shampoo for horses as I like how it smells AND it seems to make everyone very shiny AND gets rid of any skin fungus issues, and if it's been REALLY MUGGY or have any noticeable fungus issues going around I add a dab of Iodine shampoo to the...
Thanks guys :) The goat apparently beg to differ...they spent the night by the gate and are STILL by the gate...ready to back to their shed and mowing the "lawn".....SPOILED ROTTEN GOATS! I'm not caving though...there they are and there they stay as I already plan remodeling and space...
I'm in the same boat, and run things the SAME WAY :) Lunch is a no brainer - cut that one and you cut a feeding in the middle of YOUR day, thus adding time FOR YOU AND they are "hungrier" at dinner time...more likely to eat a serving of GRAIN over nothing...I offer a small dinner of grain a few...
Ours like the palms too! We live in a river bottom...and thus all the boggy spots grow "fan palms" I think they are called....it's the first thing they go for when I let them out to free range...skip right over the other stuff for those things...the horses even chew on 'em from time to...
I must admit I saw this a few days back and was INSPIRED - HIGHLY INSPIRED! It made me get a move on and get a similar set up done for my boys :) GREAT JOB on your new pen and I hope you and your goats enjoy it as much as we enjoy having ours done here! :thumbsup
Are you SURE she didn't get a shot there or nearby at some point? I mean...she's had like a million so far...just saying...
My next guess would be SPIDER BITE? I only guess this because my dog has a GNARLY bite on her forehead rite now...bout the same size as what you describe on...
So we've been rocking the "redneck buck housing project" for a while....moving them in tractors when I had the girls out to allow grazing, free ranging when the girl goats weren't out, and sleeping in a decrepit shed as a barn at night...this was NOT working! Too much work moving goats all day...
I had a rubber maid tote full of tasty dandelions I pulled for the girls, they DUMPED IT OUT AND SAT IN IT! Look...just like kids at Christmas....playing with the box instead of the toys:
Penelope got in there first...then I forgot about it after I snapped the pic...and almost had a HEART...
Last year we bought a bag of seeds at TSC meant for seeding plots where you want deer to come...tossed it out in the little field we could easily irrigate and grew "the most expensive weeds in texas" (according to my husband)....I might have done wrong, but it seemed the goats LOVED it and all...
