    Feeding pigs

Doesn't boiling it remove most of the nutritional value - I understand why it's done, but is it counter productive?

    Any butcher questions?

Newbie here - I know that it is best for there to be little or no stress for the hog at slaughter time - that it can affect the quality of the meat. Also, I have read it is best to hang the hog for 24+/- hrs after slaughter/skinning/splitting to improve the quality of the meat. So my first...

    How to transport a pig

Ok, I will have the same issue when the time comes. Probably 150-200lbs Guinea Hog. Will be using a pickup with high wood sides. Plan on putting some hay in as well as a rubber mat so to avoid slipping. How would I get him into the pickup?

    Best Breeding Cycle Approach Advice

Thanks for all of the input... The breed I will be dealing with is the American Guinea Hog. Very docile and not too big. I have figured out a plan as to have 2 areas - both woods/pasture - and to always have company. No Boar or sow will ever be alone. I still may try to slow the breedings to...

Do you butcher your own pigs? How do you store the meat?

What does stress do to the meat? I will be taking mine to the butcher when the time comes. They slaughter on site... I hope a ride in the truck isn't too stressful.

    Space for two AGH

Would 4'6" x 7'6" be enough space for 2 AGH (it would be 3'10" high). See here: http://www.port-a-hut.com/individual-hut.cfm Normally I would build my own but after materials and labor the one above seems quite reasonable. Only $239.00 Or would I be better off building a 7'x7' lean-to shelter...

How much hay does a pig consume?

On average? I guess what I want to know is how long one 50-60lb bale will last 2 pigs. (they would be supplemented with other goodies as well)

    Best Breeding Cycle Approach Advice

Ok, here's what I would like to do. I am going to have a breeding pair and would only like to breed them once per year. I plan to keep a couple from each litter to raise for meat then sell the rest of the litter. I want to keep my original breeding pair as such. I assume that means they cannot...

    Fencing Options

    VERY Newbie Questions

What would you all consider to be an ideal amount of space for 2 breeder Guinea Hogs? Obviously, the more the better, but what would be a sufficient minimum? (fenced pasture area)

    Breeding Guinea Hogs

Hello all, I am very new here, but you will probably be seeing a lot of me in the coming months. My family and I have made the decision to get a couple of breeding Guinea Hogs. I have many questions. We are not getting them right away, because before we do I want to be well informed as to what I...
