    rachels.haven's Journal

For groves around here each tree has either a drip irrigation or an in ground pipe riser irrigation "sprinkler". Drips are prone to coyotes chewing on them, but cheaper to put in. That's the only way we can do it. When NAFTA allowed Mexico to ship avocados in we took a HUGE hit. A lot of groves...

2024 SageHill Lambing (the newbie joins in) now Fall 2024

This morning - TWINS!!! This time two ewe lambs. One of the ALMOST identical to triplet lamb in color and markings, eye candy!! This is the other ewe lamb born Oct 15 No idea where the color came from - I'd expect it maybe in Oct 15 triplets because that ewe IS brown/red. Today's similar...

Sounds like a tear - and a quite a tear at that. Tore mine, but kept on going and going. Finally got it checked, had surgery to trim it. Good as new after PT. Sorry it happened, but it's better than a break.

    Amaranth? Toxic or safe?

We've got it here, I originally thought it was good. Was even excited when I saw and identified it. (No thorns) It was last year when I was documenting what grows on our ranch. The basics I read were it was toxic - but there were mixed "opinions" on it. So - I put it on the "NO" list.

    Boone-My Anatolian Unicorn

Ya' know, it seems sort of obvious to me that he is TRYING HIS ALL OUT BEST for you to get more exercise. Yeah we'd all rather sit for whatever our current reason is, sleep, pain, etc. But movement is a good thing. I do believe that is what he is trying to tell you. I've though this before as...

Ridgetop - our place and how we muddle along

No, no, no. As much as we need/want you in CA - there is too much stress here with the state of the state. I know you love the grands, but they tend to like to give you the current "bug" whatever that is. TX is for you, you just need to cut the CA cord --- which of course includes the CA medical...

    Our First year Lambing! (2024-25)

Mine stay in a stall (12x12) or jug (4x4) if needed, for the first couple/few days, then go out with the flock. I make sure when I let "the bigs" out that the "littles" aren't in their path. There's usually a little nosing around, then some nudging and all is well. The current 2 like to hang out...

    Farmerjan's journal - Weather

YES! THIS!!! I'll add that there should be required time for school age children to visit and do some work on a farm/ranch. Heck at least so required field trips. Perish the thought that they might get dirty . Suburban and city kids today have absolutely no idea what farming or ranching...
