Any color has its challenges. Generally, the more complex the markings, the harder it is. Thats why English Spots and Rhilanders seem to drive their owners to near insanity. Selfs are not quite as hard, but there you have to worry about uneven coloring, faded coloring. etc. There isnt really an...
If you have another doe with its around the same size and age, foster the smaller kits to her. They are a bit small, but don't look starved or unhealthy.
I have not been showing for all that long, but it's a lot of fun. Shows are also a good place to buy and sell rabbits.
It would be great if the ARBA would focus more on body type and overall condition of the rabbit shown, rather than just markings. I've seen some rabbits in not-so-great...
@HaloRabbits , I understand your point. You are far more knowledgeable than me about genetics. But in show breeding, you are sometimes better safe than sorry. You could, and quite possibly will, get showable offspring, which would still carry the nonshowable gene. You sell that rabbit to...
Welcome from NY!!! Rabbits will probably not help offset your grocery bill as much as you hope. While feed is relatively cheap(I average at about $17.50 for a 50 lb bag), you have to buy lumber and wire for hutches, and buy the rabbits themselves, which can be VERY pricey, but its better to pay...
That is an EXTREMELY good sign. You have found a very good breeder to buy from. A large amount of breeders may not mention the disease, for fear that you would decide not to buy the rabbits.
Snuffles is very contagious. It can wipe out whole rabbitries in a week. You will need to wash your...
How old is she? If she is especially young(under 5 months, depending on the breed), or especially old, difficulties like this are at a large risk of happening, but this sounds more like a genetic complication. Have there been any deformities in her parents, grandparents, siblings, etc.? She is...
:ep!!! Thats horrible. We had a bear knock over a hutch once, but no rabbits died. Foxes are more a problem than bears. They can get into pretty much everything. Be careful of raccoons, too. They reach into hutches and grab at the rabbits.
Mine wouldn't eat the TSC stuff either. Once you use more than 1/2 of the bag, all it is is dust! If you have a horse or cow feed store nearby, try there. The feed hay for horses is great for rabbits. They LOVE it, and its great for nests, too.
