    First dead litter..advice?

Her vulva should be red in color with red/purple as being pretty much the best time. If it is pale, then I wouldn't even try.

    problems getting babies

What you can possibly try (cause I'm having the same issues with my Havanas) is switch the buck and doe and put them in each others cage. Give them a day or two to become adjusted to their new 'territory' and then take the doe to the buck (she shouldn't be aggressive about it being her cage...

French Angora & Californian- Jack Frost

If they are still alive by the next time you check them (finger crossed!), but they still look underfed, you can flip the doe on her back and attach the baby(ies) to her teats. I've done that with a runt before with a first time mom and that baby is now eight months old and plump. Good luck to...

    Rabbit ID help please?

I am going with you have 4 mixed rabbits. The only breeds that come in such a variety are small, like 2-4 pounds small. I see a bit of Flemish Giant in the Chinchilla. The first two pictures look a bit like standard rex, but with normal fur. I'll post a pic of my rex mix and you can compare them.

    SA Farm's Kindling thread!

Watched your video, it made me very jealous. None of my rabbits want to cooperate like that and breed on their own, they always need me these days. :hu But it looks like your chestnut doe should be having babies so congrats! My lovely book that I have sitting in front of me indicates that the...

Doe bred ONCE, but kindles TWICE in 6 weeks (...then does it again!)

Okay, I hopefully have the explanation for your miracle births and why she's always late. Oh, and congrats an such a prolific doe! Rabbits generally release only one fallopian tube's eggs at each time of conception (breeding) as the tube is where they meet the sperm. Those eggs then attach to...

    Newbie Breeding Question

I recommend you wait to breed them. If the doe is 'possibly' pregnant, that gives you a 50/50% chance she is. Rabbits generally only become pregnant in one uterine horn at a time, so by breeding so far apart, you may end up with a dead litter or even two as one will be premature. Also, not all...

    New to Rabbits

It looks more deformed or as if she squished it (yes, I know that's gross).

First time kindling losses, is it normal?

I agree with alsea, I had a doe that had half her litter in the box and half on the wire. She pulled very little fur. The kits luckily survived. As for the fur, when does have kits, it triggers something (seriously forgot what it's called, but let's go with instinct) to release their belly fur...

    Does anyone breed for profit?

Oh, a local butcher. Sorry, the people around me just call it a meat locker. I forgot that not everyone does. We do the local one rather than a corporate one since local will pay better.

    4-Hers?

@fainting goats11, what county are you in? To get into showing animals it helps to go to workshops and even just ask other 4-Hers. If you're county doesn't offer workshops, see if a surrounding county does. My county draws in a couple other counties to our workshops since our program is so strong.

    Does anyone breed for profit?

You can try a meat locker, Craigslist (be very careful here), or word of mouth. As for pelts, I'm not sure. I'm not a meat breeder, so I don't have a lot to go on here. Good luck though!

Rex thread - for posting pictures and discussing our Rex Rabbits

I have 5 mini rex and 1 rex-cross. My cross looks like yours SA. My local rabbit leaders thought it was a cross betweeen Rex (body) and Mini Lop (fur), but I don't see any lop in her so lately I've been thinking Rex/Cal cross. She was 7 1/2 pounds when I got her (she's a rescue) and is now over...

    Hello from Minnesota

Well, I got a lovely surprise. Apparently I won the 10,000 member contest! Now to figure out how to spend the $20. Also, I've sold 3 bunnies but also gained 1, but I'm happy with how things are going since the 1 is bettering my stock. Everyone is surviving winter so far and no one seems to be...

Doe mating, but no litter (Update!)

Sometimes rabbit just don't want to be pregnant. I am currently trying to breed four different does (2 which are proven) to four different bucks (2 which are proven). I've tried every tactic, but I've only gotten one to take. It just happens. If she has never been bred for fall/winter babies...

    Due date?

Agreed. If she goes to the bathroom in it, just clean it out because if/when she has babies, you want a clean, dry space for them. If she starts building a nest (by moving the straw around, taking it out, putting it in, etc) she is probably pregnant. Give her time and if she doesn't kindle by...

Well, that didn't last very long...

Those Flems are so adorable! I can't believe people get animals and don't even take care of them. It's like 'What did you expect? Them to get their own food?!' The way I explain to my sibings is, we are their guardian and we are the only way they can survive. Based on their weight and size (and...
