    GOAT ADDICTS ANONYMOUS

We were taking pictures of our bucklings last night for a person who was interested in getting one. All I could think about when I was holding each of them for the photo was "I really think we should keep this one too." That could present a problem since they are all half siblings, but then...

    Yogurt Question

My wife made a batch of goat milk yogurt using a plain yogurt as the culture. We then kept back about a quarter cup from each quart to use as culture for the next batch. The second round was a little tangy. The third batch is REALLY tangy tasting. Does anyone know what causes this? We are trying...

    Greetings from Western Nebraska

Greetings. How do you like your toggenburgs? We got ours from just north of Grand Island, and they are some milk producing machines.

    GOAT ADDICTS ANONYMOUS

She's a mini - its not like she would eat a lot. Plus she could pay for her food with some kids in the future. I vote keep, but in full disclosure I always vote to keep them.

    Hello from Colorado

Greetings from western Nebraska. My wife and I started our "herd" in much the same way you described. The only advice I can offer is build more goat pens than you think you will ever need because they are addictive!

    First "Problem" kid

We are grateful that the baby survived first and foremost. I'm certain if Sheri hadn't have seen it outside the shelter it probably wouldn't have made it. We are also very grateful that we don't have to bottle feed it. Our daughter is due to have our first grandchild any day, and we really...

    First "Problem" kid

When I fed them that morning I noticed momma was acting different and mentioned it to my wife. She was home and kept an eye on her. She called me at work when she saw it was not doing good. Normally we are both gone from 8-6 during the day, so it was pure luck she was home and I was in town...

    First "Problem" kid

Yesterday we had our first problem kid born. Boer doeling that was born outside the shelter in a cold rain. Mother left it and went to eating. Fortunately my wife saw it. The baby was shivering and pretty lifeless when she got to it. We brought it in, put it on a heat pad and blankets, and then...

    Dewormer Question

I should have tried to take a picture. I did look through as many of the worming threads as I could before I posted the question (which was why it was 11:30 p.m.). I didn't see a picture that looked like what I saw. The worm was white, and maybe 1/16th of an inch long. Looked rounded and not...

    Dewormer Question

I saw what I believe are pinworms in one of the goats fecal. I have a goat dewormer medicated pellet feed and wasn't sure if it would actually treat this worm. The active ingredient is Morantel Tartrate. I don't want to give her a wormer that doesn't work and I also don't want to have to...

    Best Goat

I did run across a batch of "goaty" tasting milk today. It was from my milking on Saturday. We organize our milk in the fridge in rows of a gallon, so its pretty easy to tell when it was milked. I couldn't figure out why it tasted different from the rest. It was fresher than the milk I had...

    GOAT ADDICTS ANONYMOUS

Is it wrong that after posting I am a Goat Addict, and reading everyone elses posts, that I'm thinking I should get another one? I mean really - I'm not nearly as bad as ___________, who has _____ goats. I think everyone of us can think of someone who has more, so we aren't really so bad are we...

    GOAT ADDICTS ANONYMOUS

Hi. I'm Steve and I'm a goat addict. It all started last June when I got 2 baby Nigerian does for my wife for her birthday and our anniversary. It was what she wanted. From there we got an older Nigerian in milk and her weaned doe kid, and a wether as a companion (mostly for us since he minds...

My thoughts on the Simple Pulse milker

Congrats on deciding on the milker. My wif and I are talking about getting one once the milking barn is built and we had looked at the Perry milker. This one looks as good or better, so I'll be excited to hear how it works. @Southern by choice Here's a photo of my x-ray. I wish there was a good...

My thoughts on the Simple Pulse milker

You haven't seen my complete lack of skills in the hand milking department. I also shattered my left wrist in October, and I have a plate, 9 pins and 3 screws holding it all together, which translates into I can really only hand milk with one hand. I just don't have the strength built up in it...

My thoughts on the Simple Pulse milker

I'm watching this thread for an update on which one you chose and how it works. I'm using a Henry Milker now, and it takes me 30 minutes to milk out 2 goats (including stripping the last by hand). If each goat took 5 minutes, I could add more goats!

    Best Goat

Wow - 3 pages worth of posts and there's no love for the Toggs? I'll be the first to spread some Toggenburg love. What I like about them is that they produce consistently and are QUIET. Im sure every goat is different but I've never met a quiet Nubian. My wife and I have some Nigerians and I...

    Doe with second teat

@Latestarter Thank you for the link. I searched the forum for a thread that dealt with this but couldn't find it. I guess I didn't use he word extra and used double instead. The extra teat doesn't seem to be slowing the kid down. I watched her milk just now and she doesn't appear to even get...

    Doe with second teat

Thanks for the quick reply. We bought all of our does from the same breeder last year and the buck that wasn't related to the does. We aren't showing them but just have them for our own food supply.

    Doe with second teat

We have a boer goat kidded a week ago with a single doeling. I noticed tonight that above her teat is a second teat near her udder. It's very small compared to he normal teat. After seeing that, I checked our other does and found another that had the same thing. Is this genetic? Will it cause...
