Here he is. Fella has scurs we'll need to keep an eye on and I just realized he has blue eyes.
Husband came home and said, "Yup. I can smell him."
But after spending a few hours inside and going back out, I can't. Just smells like normal goat to me. :idunno
Well, they were definitely not in heat.
First time ever smelling buck. He wasn't too bad until we got up close. I was expecting the whole yard to reek.
The lady was actually a lot more pleasant to chat with than I remembered, so that part went well.
Not sure if I made a mistake but...she had...
I'm gonna try to take them over (leaving in a few) but I hate the idea of unnecessary stressing them out. Hoping the lady will let them spend a night or two or three...
It was difficult just arranging this one day, I'm not sure if the previous owner would be available if I was to pinpoint their heat with a buck rag. Sounds like I'm making excuses, sigh, but it's hard to get a reading on this lady. I just get the feeling I'm kinda a nuisance but that could just...
I'm not sure if she'd keep them until they went into heat. I thought I might ask when we go over but at the same time I feel really awkward about asking. 😬
Taking my 2 Nigerian Dwarf does to be, hopefully, bred tomorrow. Lady I bought them from earlier this year said I could bring them back for rebreeding if they weren't prego. Well, they weren't.
However, I'm worried this attempt won't be successful because I can't tell when these girls are in...
Just goes to show, mutts can't be trusted 100%!
Just discovered our dog slobbering up and chasing our doe, Lily, so badly that she's standing and panting like, well a dog. At least,, that's what I assumed happened since her neck is soaked. Thought she was dying at first, scared the poo outta...
I am extremely tempted to get a buck and I need yall to throw the cold, hard facts at me.
We have 2 Nigerian Dwarf does. Bought them as "bred" but they weren't. Blah. Taking them to a stud just sounds...complicated... to me. Wouldn't it be "easier" to just keep my own buck on hand?
I also tend...
Well, I ended up selling the pigs to a really nice family that have the acreage for them. This new family has invited us to their farm, they homeschool like we do, and the mother seemed excited for our kids to have play dates so...found some potential new friends! Gave them our ducks, too.
So...
I was thinking of planting a privacy hedge a few days ago. Having something that smells good like lilacs would be nice.
Might put up a privacy fence, too.
Very true. I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed since we moved. Maybe if things get organized, it'll get better.
I'm not expecting to make money off our animals but if push comes to shove, I'm hoping they'll help feed us. Learned how quickly the store shelves empty when Covid hit last year...
We tried to find land. Put an offer on a 22 acre place with a house but got outbid.
Put an offer on 12 acres of beautiful wooded land with a small house and got outbid by a cash buyer.
Acreage was either too far away for my husband to drive to work, too expensive for our budget, or got snatched...
True. I've noticed they have a sort of "musky" scent. Though I generally can't smell it unless I get close to them. Like, in their pen. Which makes me wonder if "neighbor" came up to the fence, took a big whiff and thought, "Too stinky!!"
At any rate, I moved them out of their enclosure and am...
We just moved to our new house about 3 weeks ago. I got a permit from our city for our chickens, ducks, goats, and 2 KuneKune pigs. So I'm in accordance with the law in keeping livestock in town.
Tonight I found a letter in our mailbox from "neighbor" (no signed name, but I can guess who it is...
Yeah, I've bought and sold so many animals, trying to find what works for us. Seems "what works" keeps fluctuating.
Oh, we're pretty "in town". Living on the same road as the hospital. Our neighbors has a mini horse, though, so animals don't seem to be an issue. Or, at lleast I thought so...
Funnily enough, my husband just asked me a couple days ago if the pigs still "give me joy".
The big thing for me is that I look at their trusting, squishy faces and I start feeling guilty about getting rid of them. And we went through SO MUCH trouble to get them to our new home, I'd hate for it...
I didn't mean to post and run. Thank y'all for all the encouragement.
I put the ducks on craigslist but, no biters yet. I'll add Brewers yeast to their food just in case nobody wants them and we end up keeping them.
Hoping we'll be able to get more fencing up this weekend. Also need a pig...
For years I've dreamed of having livestock. We have that, now. Sorta. But now that we have them, I'm feeling burned out or something. Tired. A bit annoyed, too, I guess. We just moved to a new house and part of my aggravation is that we don't have areas set up for the different critters (yet)...
