Okay got the spacer/shim and some fondant to feed.
The fondant came as one big lump. I'm assuming I just roll it out between wax paper, cut to size and feed?
From what I can see i think so. These are the same naughty girls that built the comb across the frames instead ofwith the frames.
Found the Dadant site, have patties on order. Is there a reason u remove the top paper on the patties?
Thank you everyone! I have a Lang, two deep brood boxes. Hive was too new to take advantage of the medium super.
Now they are in the bottom box, seem to b stable. Definitely aware and present if I open to check on them.
I did try a pollen patties, got too mushy and started to drip in comb so I...
Update, got a good look at the backward comb...
It looks great, still planning on moving it all to the right position come warm temps. Thought the pic was cool so I wanted to share.
What, if you feed, do you provide in the winter?
I live in Vancouver, WA and have tons of rain, wind and freezing temps. First winter with bees, very nervous of not doing something I should be doing.
Thanks,
Alicia
Have experienced that with my hive. My stomach always jumps up to my throat and I think they're dead. Then I move the hive slightly and there they are, big relief.
Hi all. Its been very rainy with temps 40-55 degrees. Inspected hive today and found mildew on inside of of top cover. Colony below looks great and no sign of mildew there.
What should I clean with and how do I prevent more?
Thanks!
She is a pet but keeping her and babies are something we want.
She did have a slight prolapse at end of last pregnancy. Will that get worse the second time around? Am I correct in thinking to get her weight up before breeding again?
Okay thanks. We have all alpines, pretty seasonal here. Should I check her weight before just to make sure? Last pregnancy was her first and she now has a hard time putting weight on....just don't want to hurt her.
I was using an entrAnce feeder with jar, quit that right away when saw ants. Tried pollen pattie in hive, ants got to it....they were just eating away right next to the bees. Took it out when I saw that. Not sure what to do now, but I will try an empty super with the jar.
Thanks for all the tips. They are little ants. The only time I have a problem is if I put out a ppollen patty, in the hive, or a jar of liquid feed. So should I just try the above when feeding or is there a trick to feeding?
